Finally, our prediction in 2001 that Microsoft would embrace Open Source within 10 years turned out to be right. In a move to counter Google and other players in the web sphere, Microsoft has decided to gradually phase out proprietary restrictions on its popular software, starting with Windows and Internet Explorer, to be followed in the coming months by the Office suite.
